Beef Patties with Mushroom Gravy

Homestyle pan gravy with mushrooms served over juicy beef patties. Mashed potatoes and green beens are an excellent accompaniment.

Ingredients

  • 1 onion
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 2 tbsp dry bread crumbs
  • ¾ tsp oregano
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cups mushrooms sliced
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 ½ cups beef
  • ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp parsley

Instructions

  • Grate garlic cloves and divide in half.
    Chop half of the onion, grate or mince the other half.  
  • In a large bowl, combine half the garlic, minced onion, beaten egg, and bread crumbs. Add oregano, salt, pepper and ground beef. Mix well.
  • Divide the ground beef mixture into 8 equal sized patties, approx. ½" thick. Fry over medium heat until cooked through and browned on both sides. Remove from pan and set aside and keep warm.
    Drain excess grease from pan.
  • Sear mushrooms and set aside.
    Cook onions and garlic until softened. and add flour. Stir and cook for 1 minute. Add beef stock, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a boil stirring constantly. Reduce heat and stir until sauce thickens. Add mushrooms back into the pan. Mix well and add the parsley.
  • Pour the mushroom gravy over the hot beef patties, and serve.
