Our Story

Do you need 500 versions of mac ‘n cheese?

We don’t have thousands recipes on this site. So if you want to peruse hundreds of variations of the same recipe you’re in the wrong place. Our goal is to provide quality and delicious recipes. That being said, what we like might not be something you like, so feel free to offer input.

Who are we?

I’m a mechanic by trade. Kim is an early retired interior designer. We’ve always shared a passion for good food. Spending hours in the kitchen, Kim deserves much more credit than I do. Sometimes she will say “I have cooking back.” I get it too, standing on a hard ceramic floor can give you a sore back. Ya, we’re getting older. She runs the house while I’m more of a weekend warrior. Pizza, BBQ and such. She is the “chef” and I am the “tech”.

I’ve always had a desire to start a website but never had anything relevant to write about. I was surprised when I voiced my idea about a recipe site with Kim. Her response was an immediate yes. It’s morphed into something that we’re actually proud of. Small compared to many recipe sites but hey, it’s our brand. The Oven Rack.

Good neighbours, good friends

Kim:

We’d like to welcome you into our kitchen. Our hope is to share our favourite recipes, many are my own, some passed down from generations and some are simply things we’ve found along the way.

Another reason for launching this site is to preserve the history of two women. Firstly my Mother, and secondly her dearest friend and neighbour Sally. They became wives and mothers after the second world war and quickly learned how to put dinner on the table seven days a week. Sallys husband was heavily into vegetable gardening, supplying them with a bounty of summer veg. They learned how to make preserves, pickles, sauces, even liver stew for the dogs (sorry, that recipe is staying in the archives) There was always something special in the kitchen.
